China has stopped buying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States for over ten weeks, widening the effects of the Sino-American trade conflict to energy supplies. No U.S. LNG vessel has docked in China since a tanker arrived in Fujian on February 6. A second ship bound for the mainland changed course to Bangladesh after failing to arrive before Beijing’s tariff on American LNG took effect. The tariff has since risen, making the fuel uneconomical for Chinese buyers.
